  “Several canoes. I could hear them laughing. They waved and shouted at me. Something about making a lot of food for hungry people. They have women and children with them.”

  “It will be a feast tonight.” Attu grinned, even as he stepped out of the water to the disappointed cries of Nuanu and Gantuk.

  “Don’t be sad,” Attu told them. “Elder Tingiyok is back, and our Nukeena friends are coming.”

  Attu scooped his children up in his arms and hurried up the beach with Rovek to tell the others.
